Newlands Primary School have experienced an increase in student numbers over the past few years, leaving them with a lack of teaching space. In early 2013 Vorstermans Architects was engaged to design a new two-classroom block to help solve this problem.
Using a previously under-utilised space in the bottom corner of the school, the new classrooms were largely based on the previously successful design at Papakowhai school. Combined with a large verandah, and paths landscaping the area around the classrooms, a great new space for the students to hang out around and learn-in was envisaged.
The new two-classroom block was finally completed this year, just in time for term 4. The new entrant classes are enjoying their new space and making the most of the walls to hang their art & school work. We hope they continue to enjoy the classrooms when school starts again in 2015.
